The first audition for a movie role can be a nerve-wracking experience without a little preparation beforehand. A good rule of thumb would be to act as you were a guest in someone else’s home. When you enter the movie audition be polite, don’t touch anything and do as you are instructed. Don’t bring food, candy or gum into the audition. A small bottle of water is fine. Don’t make yourself a distraction when others are auditioning, remain quiet until the director tells you it is your turn to audition for the movie.

Don’t expect a warm and friendly reception from the auditions staff. They are on a schedule and have to be objective when making their decisions. You won’t be hearing any applause after your performance either. Don’t take it personally, just do as you are told, give it your best and say thank you when it’s over.

Auditions for movies are a bit different than most of types of auditions and casting calls. Feature film productions can be drawn-out affairs with long schedules. Likewise, the auditions process for movies can also be a long, drawn-out procedure that takes several weeks to complete. It is not uncommon to be called back a half-dozen times in auditions for movies. Sometimes the directors may even have a candidate cold read without preparation for several different roles in the film. Any movie audition opportunity is a good one and reading for multiple parts could lead to landing an unexpected role. The directors will know you haven’t rehearsed for the cold reads, just do the best you can.
